Blåsjø is an artificial lake located in the municipalities of Hjelmeland, Suldal, and Bykle. At its highest regulated water level (1055 meters above sea level), Blåsjø covers an area of approximately 81 km², making it the 12th largest lake in Norway.
Blåsjø serves as a reservoir for the Ulla-Førre power plants, and with an energy content of 7.8 TWh, it is the largest reservoir in Norway. 14 small and large dams, including the Førrevassdammen dam, hold the water in place.
The area around Blåsjø is suitable for cycling, mountain hiking (for example, to Mt. Stora Blåfjell), and fishing with a rod or net.
To get here, follow the National Road 13 into Jøsenfjorden and then continue towards Gullingen in Suldal municipality. Take the turnoff towards Blåsjøvegen when you reach the sign at Mosvatnet (toll road, payment by card).
Note that the area around Blåsjø normally has a lot of snow, and it may linger well into spring and early summer.
