Førrevassdammen (built between 1982-1986) is one of many dams that impound the Blåsjø reservoir, the largest reservoir in Norway.
Førrevassdammen spans over Førrejuvet, which marks the boundary between Hjelmeland and Suldal municipalities. With a volume of 2.786 million cubic meters and a length of about 1.3 km, Førrevassdammen is the largest concrete dam in Norway.
In 1989, Førrevassdammen was awarded the Betongtavlen, an honor recognizing excellence in the use of concrete.
Førrevassdammen is a great starting point for hikes in the Blåsjø area, for example to Mt. Stora Blåfjell.
To get here, follow National Road 13 into Jøsenfjorden, and continue towards Gullingen in Suldal municipality. Turn onto Blåsjøvegen when you see the sign at Mosvatnet (toll road, payment by card).
Note that the Blåsjø area typically has a lot of snow, which may persist well into spring and early summer.
